

One of the highlights of the winter, this party of Pine Grosbeaks at Sandemar Reserve, completely unexpected and a prelude to a minor irruption of the species into Sweden from the east. The males were stunning birds and prompted a colour sketch, the females though drabber were still lovely birds. I watched these huge finches for some time, they were remarkably tame, docile birds with and wonderful call, a low flute like note. Went home a happy man and the memory is still fresh in the mind to this day...
